 Israel is basically single-handedly feeding and watering 2 million people while trying to minimize violent deaths while fighting a war against an insurgency, and at the same time there is shortages and mass suffering.

That’s not what is happening in Gaza.

Look at historic genocides:

Cambodia (1975–1979): Estimates suggest 20–25% of Cambodia’s total population died.

Gaza needs change.  What’s more valuable to Gaza is not arguing if it’s a genocide, a famine, or whatever other term you want to call it.  It’s a tragedy either way but what needs amplification is a way out of this.  The way out starts with Hamas laying down its arms.

It's a surprise to me that Centrist are this pro-Israel.  I did see one post saying Centrist was pro-Israel and I didn't believe it, but the more I see the more I think there's quite a truth to that.

I don't know why people are so easy on Israel.  The obvious answer is the severity of the October 10th attacks which were appalling.  But even before that people were still forgiving of Israel's interment of the entire Gazan population.  On average more people believe in violence for violence than in meeting violence with peace and diplomacy,  Israel could've already had those hostages back safe and sound had they chosen a diplomatic course.  But I don't think they even care about the hostages, nor the lives of their own citizens.  The Israeli government wanted this war and took full advantage of it, no doubt to increase chances of getting Palestinian land.

I know how evil Hamas is, but people don't seem to think in anything other than binary terms - if one side is bad, that must mean the other side is good.  They're not very good at separating populations from governments, nor in seeing that diplomacy in the face of hate can de-escalate tensions.

I don't know.  I'm surprised that Centrists aren't more neutral in this situation, but I don't think you'll be able to change them.  There's some strange forgiveness for Israeli that most people are under the spell of.

If Israel keeps going after Hamas surrenders and releases the hostages then ya I will agree it’s a genocide. But until the hostages are home, Israel has a valid reason to keep fighting. I don’t like the aid situation and think Israel is fucked up for it, but again idk if it would be considered a genocide at this point.

I feel like this conflict turns into a pro vs con very quickly. This situation is way to complex to be turned into two teams.

I think it is absolutely vital that we should not trade with Israël as long as this situation continues Especially no weapon trade. Whatever Hamas has done is not an excuse for what Netanyahu is doing with the GHF. There is a diffence in collateral damage and spraying bullets through groups of people while using the existence of Hamas as a defense. Netanyahu is a massive asshole.

That said: From the supporter side, the Palestine supporters tend to scare the absolute shit out of me. Seeing people scream "From the river to the sea" is concerning. And the reaction to the killings of the staff of the Israeli embassy a few months ago was incredibly shocking. Pretty much every reddit thread covering it was swarmed by people calling it a false flag operation, or even "deserved". This wasn't a few bad apples. This was a scarily big majority.

I think Bernie does a pretty good job, as he aims his critisism at Netanyahu. Not Israël itself. In the same way that people critisize Hamas and not Palestine itself. I hope other follow this example.

I don’t think most people understand how powerful  the Israeli lobby is on Capitol Hill. It’s to a point where even if Trump breaks from Bibi (which he never would) all hell will break loose because all but a few house members and Senators take tons of money from AIPAC. If they do or say anything against Israel then they get primaried. 

So as long as the US keeps giving aid and money to Israel and blocks for them in the UN, nothing will change and Gazas genocide will continue until Israel decides otherwise. 

Convincingly centrists is great, but convince them that voting for Israeli lobbied candidates is basically allowing this to happen, specifically AIPAC. 

This genocide is the perfect example of how foreign influence has corrupted our politics.

What I dislike is the constant back-and-forth of gotchas.

I’m pro-Israel. I also believe that anyone arrested, anywhere, deserves to be charged with a crime and have the opportunity to defend themselves in court. Everyone in custody should have access to food, water, shelter, and healthcare, regardless of who they are or what they’re accused of. While Hamas and others are undeniably worse, their crimes are no excuse.

Here, the Israeli Supreme Court has taken a step toward upholding these basic rights. I’m glad to hear that. Even if the current government disagrees with the ruling, it means they will be forced to improve conditions.

Part of truly supporting a place and its people is acknowledging when they do wrong and wanting them to do better. Treating these issues like a team sport doesn’t help anyone.

After viewing the footage, it definitely appears to be an atrocity committed by the Israeli military.  The soldiers should be court martialed, a full investigation needs to occur immediately, and if the soldiers are found guilty of intentionally murdering innocent civilians, they need to be punished.

Furthermore, it appears the IDF was covering up the incident.  They may not have known the details and therefore unintentionally gave misleading statements, to be fair, but now that the truth has come out (or what appears to be), it certainly destroys the IDF's credibility.  Unfortunately, war crimes like this, are more common than you may realize.  The U.S. military committed many of these that were worse in Vietnam.  

This isn't the first time the IDF tried covering up such a situation.  In 1982, thousands of Palestinian civilians were massacred by the Lebanese military (the IDF wasn't directly involved), and the IDF knew about it, but sense the Lebanese leadership was an ally of Israel, they turned the blind eye.  Such is the brutal nature of warfare.

However, in regards to the Gaza war, the ratio of civilians to militants killed are quite low for urban warfare.  It's practically 1:1, which is unheard of, especially considering the underhanded guerilla warfare tactics Hamas employs regularly.  This is likely an isolated incident (though I won't deny other such incidences might have occurred).

Israel needs to do some quick PR on this, take responsibility, and hold the IDF soldiers accountable.  Otherwise, more such incidences might occur (and blow up into a scandal) and drain their support to continue the war.

Both parties have, unfortunately. I don't know whether this particular report is true - it's hard to know what happens in the heat of war.

Hamas routinely transports their troops disguised as Red Crescent medics.  They also transport hostages and weapons disguised as Red Crescent medics. Palestinians did this as far back as the second intifada, I remember seeing the pictures.

This is a war crime on the part of Hamas.  Doing so means that Red Crescent medics no longer have protected status. They’re valid military targets and it’s not a war crime to attack them.

Israel has a policy to not attack these medics, even though they are valid targets due to Hamas actions.  Israel may have violated their own policy, but they didn’t commit any crimes.

I’ll also note that it’s a war crime to not wear uniforms and it’s a war crime to pretend to be a civilian.  Hamas doesn’t even own uniforms, so their existence is a war crime.  And any civilian casualties during the war are 100% the fault of Hamas because Hamas always dresses up like civilians.

No. Israel is a country at war with irregular combatants who actively flout the laws of war. Those laws are equally a restriction on the actions of those who are on the offense as those on defense. When hamas not only fails to protect their people, but actively involves them, they bear the burden of those people.
